Why can't I see my MFD listed under sources?

In a nut-shell..

  1. The MFD's are located on a sub-network that is out of reach for SNMP broadcasts; OR
  2. You computer/network has disabled the ability to perform network searches (SNMP walks).

Discovery of MFD's over the network is achieved by use of an SNMP broadcasting protocol. An SNMP broadcast is limited to the same class network, and is designed that way (otherwise the whole internet would be saturated with SNMP broadcasts).

This usually means that the MFD's are located on a different subnet and are therefore not reachable via SNMP broadcast (think of two submarines pinging each other in two different oceans). Alternatively, if the MFD is on the same subnet, there may be something on the network or computer that is blocking SNMP broadcasts for security reasons.

To resolve this, simply enter in the IP address manually using the "Force Discovery" button.
